Several top most private schools of the Srinagar city are reportedly engaged in a major attendance fraud, in which many students of these schools, who are preparing for entrance examinations, are attending regular private coaching classes but their attendance is marked as regular at these schools.
Sources told that many students of 11th and 12th class, most of who come from influential families, have taken admission in some top private schools of Srinagar city, never attend schools. Adding that there attendance is fraudulently marked as present by the school teachers. They added that there are also many students used to prefer government schools for dummy admissions as there was least strictness in the schools but now the private schools have started the practice. Sources said that the management of these private schools charge money from the students who desire to take dummy admission, and without providing any education, but they simply give them full attendance making them eligible to appear in annual board examinations. One of the teacher in Kashmir’s top school told that these students take dummy admission so that they can devote their whole time to private coaching in state and other parts of country.
“Their first preference is competitive examination and these students easily qualify the board examination, even without attending classes”, they said. They said many such students could be found in coaching centres of Parraypora as tuition. They said that this all is happening as there is no lack of check from the concern government department. A member of the Private Schools Association told that if tuition/coaching centres closed by government then why these top school’s students attend entrance classes during school hours. Adding that government should look into this matter. When contacts Farooq Ahmad Shah, secretary education, he said, “We will take action against schools if found in such activity. I will discuss this issue with director education”.
